KCW: Day 7
I did it! Managed to squeeze one more project in there for KCW.
I made a (modified) Stella Tunic by Shwin Designs for the smallest birdie. Really quick, really cute! There are a bunch of options for this pattern, which is really great. I chose the racerback option and omitted the collar for this version, and this was such an easy sew that I can't wait to make more with all the different options.
I used a combination of woven and knit, woven for the top and the softest jersey knit (in the world) for the bottom. The woven is something from my scrap pile and it was just wide enough to fit the bodice pieces, hence the seam in the center back. I LOVE this fabric and I really wish I had more. I would make lots of things, LOTS and LOTS of things. I love the racerback, the way it's cut is just perfect. It frames her neck and shoulders so well. I also used a snap instead of buttons, yep "a" as in one. The one snap is hidden within one of the red bubbly things, I couldn't bring myself to cover up any of the print.
The bottom was the most difficult part of the whole thing, I couldn't find a piece of anything in my entire stash that went with the bodice. I have to give all the credit to my little sewing buddy for ferreting through the scrap bin to find this piece of jersey. Thank you Samantha, it's perfect! The skirt is where I modified the pattern the most. The Stella is supposed to open all the way down the front. I didn't really want to do that, so I cut both the front and back pieces on the fold. It's also supposed to have a hi-lo hem, which I would have loved to do, but the jersey was again from my scrap pile and I only had enough length to cut a straight hem. That is fine with me, because it's still really cute. One day I will hem it, but not today.
I'm glad I was able to participate in this KCW, at least a little. And I'm thinking, maybe I'll extend the week a bit for myself and make a few more things.
