Little Lady Sewing Week Extravaganza

The Fluff and Puff Romper:

We've been busy over here at Turtle Birdies East! I've finally had a chance to get some sewing done and take a few pictures. I began what was supposed to be a week-long journey with a cute little romper.
My inspiration came from this fancy outfit I saw on pinterest. It was too adorable and fluffy not to love. So I whipped one up and here's what I came up with.  I think it turned out pretty well!  My little lady absolutely loves it, so I may be making another one or two.  We will see.

Vintage Hand Embroidered Pillowcase Tunic:

My next venture was a vintage pillowcase dress.  I considered several designs before I started, but wasn't thrilled with the idea of making the same old vintage pillowcase dress you see everywhere.  So I decided to change it up a bit and came up with the idea for a tunic. I started draping and loved the look of a paper bag style hem for the bodice band.  Then I played around with the straps and decided to go with an adjustable halter/t-strap style racer back thing.  I love the way it looks and it makes it so the thing is really adjustable.  It fits my size 7 baby and would probably fit up to a ten year old.  I really love how it turned out.  I'll be reserving this one especially for my little lady, since the pillowcase came from my grandma.  But I did find several other awesome pillowcases to make into this style top.

Here are the other pillowcases I found.  I hope to get them into a wearable version sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Pippa's Patch-Pocket Pig Pants:

So I came up with this list of things I wanted to try to make at the beginning of the week.  I drew nice little sketches of each and the sizes I wanted to try to make.  It was an awesome plan... But after the romper taking more time than I had hoped, I kind of veered off and started creating stuff as I picked up fabric.  Pippa's Patch Pocket Pig Pants started off as a Piggy Pinafore design (we shall see if it ever makes it into an actual garment).  So the Pig fabric was from fabric.com which is an awesome place for fabric in my opinion.  I think it was a Free Spirit design.  Its a pinwale corduroy and it is SUPER soft.  Anyway, I loved it!  So here are the Patch Pocket Pig Pants. I know its a mouthful but I really love the name.  

But then after I was done, those poor Pig Pants seemed awfully lonely, and I just happened to have this lovely soft grey knit laying around. So I pondered and pondered about what to make to go with them.  After a couple of drapes and browsing around a few places, I decided to go with a high-lo, 3/4 sleeve shirt.  I think it compliments the pants pretty well, (although it turned out that the wrinkles showed up a little more than I would have like in the pictures).  This outfit is available for sale as well on our etsy site, pieces sold together.  It fits my size 3 baby very nicely. 

Denim Jumpsuit:

The Jumpsuit was another knock-off piece.  I haven't come up with a great name for this design yet, so it remains the Denim Jumpsuit.  I saw this piece on zulily ( a great source for inspiration) and had to try it out.  Here's the original:

I loved how comfy and easy it looked.  I lost the pic for a while and instead of copying the design to a T, I came up with a very similar design that I really like.  Still easy and comfy, but kind of a more dressy version of the inspiration.  I draped it in a stripey corduroy, but didn't love the look so I switched it to a denim.  I used some that I've had in the stash for a long time, couldn't even begin to guess where it came from. I love how the open back turned out, I think it really makes the piece.  This one will be available in our etsy shop shortly.  I will definitely be making more of these in different colors and fabrics, so keep a look out in our shop.

And for my final trick... 
The Drip Drop Dress:

I love the little bubble dresses that you see sometimes.  I have one pinned on my pinterest board by Straight Grain and then I saw another called the Sunshine Dress by Schwin Designs.  

  

I kind of combined the two designs and came up with my design.  The name Drip Drop Dress came solely from the awesome batik fabrics I found at Thimble Pleasures, a local and fantastic quilt shop in Chapel Hill.  I thought the combination was perfect for a bubble dress, with the raindrops on top and bubbles on the bottom.  I may modify the top a bit andswitch the surplice to the front (though not nearly as low), but I will definitely be making more of these.  This one will be up for sale shortly in the shop.  Made it for a size 2T, but it's shown here on my size 3T baby. It will fit either size, but would be a bit longer of a dress on a size 2T.

 

 Love that you can just cinch the ties at the bottom and make it a dress, a tunic, or a shirt.  It is looking rather lonely.  Hmmm, maybe a pair of golden leggings would help it feel better
